A Day on the Road in Ireland - (GPX file download in description)
Переглядів 6 тис.День тому
Just a quick edit of day three on our recent Ireland trip, starting out of Skibbereen and finishing in Cahersiveen on the Ring of Kerry. The route takes in Healy Pass, Mizen Head, Priests Leap and Caha Pass. It's about 165 miles so easily manageable in a day with lots of stops. You should be able to download the GPX file from the link below. www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/route/8864966?mode=share

1200 miles around Ireland on Himalayan 450 - Is it better?
Переглядів 18 тис.14 днів тому
One of the tours I ran this year was around Ireland following much of the Wild Atlantic Way. I took the new 450 Himalayan. Here's my verdict on it as a touring bike. I've turned comments off until Monday when I'm back from my holidays.

Okay , I owned a 411 for two years and have just today ridden the new 450. What difference a vastly superior bike in every way. My god all the poor people who can’t lift the bike off the side stand what the hell are they going to do if they drop it, hire a crane. I’m 66 and had no problem with the side stand in fact I was sick of picking up the 411 when the wind blew it over. The new bike accelerates better is safer on the motorway as you are not a mobile chicane. The old bike was good because it was cheap and plodded along, I know which one I prefer 450 wins easily 👍

So yes, they're just not going to buy it, so won't need a crane.

Today i watched your video, Sydney to london. It was was incredible and small bike and big dream. I am from Pakistan and i have 150 cc motorcycle. Last year i decided to go turkey by road with 150 cc bike. But some of friends suggest me dont go on small bike. After watching your video, it can be done with small bike. Love from Pakistan.

I think they have nailed the looks. Looks like a purposeful big bike. The triumph looks like a toy

Many of those trails are well over a thousand years old. Which is why they are so deep. Those hedges would have been just a metre high when the road was first established, now through hundreds of years of erosion by water, they can be 3 to 4 metres deep.

650 interceptor is similar , heavy to lift of the side stand compared to a triumph twin.

Znakomity test. Brawo. Sprzedałem VStroma 650 i kupiłem Himalayana 450. Jestem zachwycony wszechstronnością tego motocykla. To taki wszędołaz, zwinny, lekki w prowadzeniu, bardzo oszczędny, spala mi ok 3l/100 km. Ten motocykl daje wolność, nie ma większych ograniczeń terenowych by jechać. Serdecznie pozdrawiam z Polski.

I'm delighted you came through my local area of West Cork, it is beautiful and you had the weather on your side what a bonus. I love watching your reviews on smaller capacity motorbikes, Royal Enfield has always been on my radar but for the time being I will potter around on my Fazer 600 which is too fast for me these days.

I’d take the new Himalayan, if only to challenge your previous concerns and see how it felt on a proper tour. I think given how you felt about it, there will be so many people out there wanting to know more, who might have had second thoughts about buying one, especially with the likes of CF Moto and Voge offering good value alternatives.

The 411 is still a much better looking bike. They didn't need to change the design of the original, just add a little more 'poke'. second hand prices of 411's have dropped. A great time to buy one.

Wow what a brilliant review, everything you say makes so much sense. Maybe this engine will be more at home in a road going 450 Hunter, sounds as if RE will need to find another platform for it to make better use of it. I have sat on the 450 Himalayan and it does feel very top heavy and like you say lifting it off the side stand you definitely feel all it's weight. I think RE have really missed the target with this bike, as you said most people just wanted a little bit more power. Keep the air cooled engine but just get the power up to around 30 plus bhp. I guess most people will look at the old 411 and just fit better air flow and exhaust system and maybe a performance cam from TEC and make a better bike from the old one than RE have made of the new one.

I was lucky enough to borrow one for the day. Beautiful Algarve roads, sunshine, lovely g/f on the back…. I liked the look of it. I loved the Marshall sound system. But everything else was a massive disappointment! Nathan’s comments are spot on.

See where the lower strap is stitched in under the leather? That strap will tear off easily as the needle has neatly perforated the plastic strap. These boots look very much like my pair of Forma boots and a couple of those straps have failed in that manner in quick time. Good luck with yours.

Been looking for a new boot with some actual grip on the sole and you can walk in, my current Alpinestars are very comfortable (when riding) and waterproof, but there's no grip and the are not fun to walk in. Might give these a go.

I use the Gaerne 12s which are getting more comfortable as I wear them in. Not waterproof, but I wear seal skins because I work on the principle that water will eventually get over the top anyway and a wet goretex boot is no better than a wet non-goretex boot.
